Vauxhall Male Voice Choir and Dunstable Priory Girl’s Choir
Saturday 17th December, 2016 at 7.45pm
This was the eleventh year that the Luton Concert Orchestra and Vauxhall Male Voice Choir had joined to present a Christmas festival of music and song. Since the inception of these traditional Yuletide concerts, over £14,000 has been raised for local charities. The concert was as usual designed for all the family – young and old – and comprised a wide selection of Christmas music, songs and carols both traditional and new. There were as always some popular carols for the audience to sing.
There was a warm welcome for guests the Dunstable Priory Girl’s Choir who sung a delightful selection of sacred Christmas music, and of course the Vauxhall Male Voice Choir entertained the audience with music ranging from Handel’s Hallelujah Chorus from Messiah to selections from Jesus Christ Superstar. The singing was contrasted by some light seasonal music from the Luton Concert Orchestra which, together with the audience carols, produced a very varied evening of Christmas music.
The Master of Ceremonies for the concert was Alistair Brown, for many years a leading figure in local amateur dramatics and theatre, who was currently the president of Dunstable Rep.
The recipient charity selected for the concert was Level Trust, who work with local schools to help families who are not always able to afford the things their children need to thrive at school. The director of the charity told the audience more about their work during the concert.
Tickets were £8 (concessions £2) and were available on the door.
