Saturday 7th October, 2017 at 7.45pm
Our Autumn 2017 took place at our usual venue, the Methodist Church in Dunstable.
After our highly successful concert in Autumn 2016 we were delighted to welcome back as our guests the Grand Union Community Choir. Established in April 2009 and based in Linslade, Leighton Buzzard, the Grand Union Community Choir is open to singers of all ages who want to sing a mix of music for pleasure, as well as learning some technique along the way. There are no auditions and everyone is welcome, no matter how rusty or polished their voice!
The concert featured a wide range of music from Bizet’s Carmen to a selection from The Sound of Music. The concert ended with Henry Wood’s Fantasia on British Sea Songs which in ‘last night of the proms’ tradition incorporated a set of traditional songs from around the country with both choir and audience joining in. The concert ended with a rousing rendition of ‘Rule Britannia’ where the verses were sung by one of the members of the Orchestra who demonstrated her remarkable singing talents.
Altogether it was a very successful and enjoyable evening, attended by a large and very appreciative audience.
Tickets were £7 (concessions £5) and were available on the door or in advance from Orchestra or Choir members.
