Grand Christmas Charity Concert
raising money for good causes
raising money for good causes
Saturday 21st December, 2019 at 7.45pm
Our Christmas Charity Concert raising money for worthy local causes. Christmas music and carols to sing for all the family. As usual we joined the Vauxhall Male Voice Choir and the Dunstable Priory Girls’ Choir, to raise money this year for NOAH Enterprise who offer hope and support to people struggling against homelessness and exclusion.
There was a varied programme of music from the delightfully pure sound of the Girl’s Choir singing John Rutter’s The Lord bless you and keep you and a rousing rendition of Handel’s ‘Hallelujah’ chorus to a sparking selection of Christmas-themed music from the movies. All the usual favourites were included including Leroy Anderson’s Sleigh ride and there were plenty of traditional carols which the audience joined in heartily.
Unfortunately Terry Driver, the concert’s regular Master of Ceremonies, was unable to be at the concert so Steve Kent ably took on this role at short notice.
Tickets for the concert were £10 with children under 12 getting in free and the concert proved to be a very enjoyable evening.
Sadly this was Steve Kent’s last performance as Conductor of the Luton Concert Orchestra as he had to step down due to work commitments. We were sorry to see him leave after only 4 years but we wished him the very best for the future. Stephen Bradley, our current first trombonist, has been appointed to take over from Steve for our Spring 2020 concert.
